v RESOURCES-

     The things which have utility and value are called as resources. They satisfied the human needs. For example-chalk, duster, books, buildings, doctors, teachers etc.

v Factors which make resources

Ø Time
Ø Technology

v TYPES OF RESOURCES
Ø Natural resources-It can be classified on different basis-
§  On the basis of origin-Biotic and Abiotic
§  On the basis of development and use -Actual and potential
§  On the basis of stock-Renewable and non renewable
§  On the basis of distribution-Localized and Ubiquitous
TYPES OF RESOURCES

Natural Resources on the basis of Development and use
Actual
Potential
The resource which quantity is known is called as actual resources.
The resource which quantity is unknown is called as Potential resources.
They are used in present time
They may be used in future.
Examples-Coal in Ruhr region of Germany, Wind mills in Nagercoil (Tamilnadu), Black soils  Maharashtra
Examples- Uranium found in Ladakh

Natural Resources on the basis stock
Renewable
Non Renewable
The resources which get renewed or replenish quickly.
The resources which takes thousands year to renew.
Some of these resources have unlimited stock.
These resources have limited stock.
Example-Solar, Wind, Water etc.
Example-Coal, Petroleum, Fossil Fuel, Natural gas etc.

Natural Resources on the basis of Distribution
Ubiquitous
Localised
The resources which are found everywhere are called as ubiquitous resources
The resources which found in particular place are called as localized resources.
Example-Air, Water, Land
Examples-Copper, iron, Coal

Natural Resources on the basis of origin
Biotic
Abiotic
The resources which are living beings are called as biotic resources
The resources which are non living beings are called as abiotic resources
They need food for their growth
They do not need food for their growth.
Example-Plants, Animals
Examples-Buildings, Bridge

Ø Human made resources- The natural resources which are modified by human beings for more benefit are called as Human made resources. Example-Buildings, bridges, roads, machinery and vehicle, Technology etc.
Ø Human resources-The number (quantity) and abilities (mental and physical) of the people are refers as human resources
§  Human beings are the ultimate resources because all things converted into resources by human beings by their knowledge, skill and technology. Education and health help in making people a valuable resource.
§  Human Resources development-Improving the quality of people’s skills so that they are able to create more resources is known as human resource development.
v RESOURCES CONSERVATION-Using resources carefully and giving them time to get renewed is called resource conservation

v WAYS OF CONSERVATION

Ø By reducing consumption
Ø By recycling
Ø By reusing thing.
v SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT Balancing the need to use resources and also conserve them for the future is called sustainable development.

v PRINCIPLES OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Ø Respect and care for all forms of life
Ø Improve the quality of human life
Ø Conserve the earth’s vitality and diversity
Ø Minimise the depletion of natural resources
Ø Change personal attitude and practices toward the environment
Ø Enable communities to care for their own environment.
v Patent: It means the exclusive right over any idea or invention.
v Technology: It is the application of latest knowledge and skill in doing or making things.
